Welcome to The Outdoors Historian. By accessing my website and using my digital resources (including field guides, meal plans, and research), you agree to the following terms.

1. Intellectual Property

All content on this site—including text, research, photography, and digital downloads like the Field-Tested Menu—is the intellectual property of Emily Macgillivray, PhD, unless otherwise noted.

  • Personal Use: I created these resources for your personal enjoyment and education. You are encouraged to print them, save them, and take them into the field!

  • Restrictions: You may not sell, redistribute, or claim this content as your own. If you’d like to share these resources with a larger group or for commercial purposes, please contact me for written permission.

2. Field Disclaimer

I provide these guides based on my professional research and personal experience in the Lake Superior watershed. however:

  • Your Safety: Outdoor activities and field travel involve inherent risks. You are responsible for your own safety, gear maintenance, and environmental awareness.

  • Accuracy: While I strive for historical and logistical accuracy, landscapes and local conditions change. Always check local weather, trail conditions, and fire regulations before your trip.

  • Results: I cannot guarantee that your "Philly Cheesesteak" will look exactly like the photo, or that your cooler will maintain a perfect temperature. Use your best judgment!

3. Third-Party Links

My resources often contain links to other websites (like Substack or affiliate links for gear). I am not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those external sites.

4. Modification of Services

I am constantly "navigating the system" and updating my research. I reserve the right to modify or discontinue any part of my resources at any time without notice.
